EHS had the class of 2009 come back and relive their past.
Imaan Steyn (grade 9) was accepted to participate in the Marine explorer course at the Marine Science Academy at the Two Oceans Aquarium. She went on the achieve a bronze certificate.
Andy Sun a learner in grade 11 at Edgemead High School can be described by his teachers and peers as a dedicated and hardworking learner with a passion for Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
At the UCT Mathematics Competition, which took place on Thursday, 25 April 2019, Andy did Edgemead High proud by achieving gold. He was also one of the top learners in grade 11 after competing against many learners from other schools in the Western Cape.
Andy was then invited by UCT to take part in the UCT mathematics challenge, which took place on Saturday, 18 May 2019, where he competed against the top grade 11 learners in the Western Cape.
Ms S Saunders, organiser of the UCT Mathematics Competition, from Edgemead High School comments: “Andy has truly done the school proud, we are immensely proud of his contribution to Edgemead High School. It is the first time in years that we have achieved such outstanding results in the UCT Mathematics competition.”
We look forward to seeing Andy at the UCT mathematics competition prize giving which will take place on the 7 June 2019 where his achievements will be celebrated.
The Robotics club ended Term 2 off on an high with an internal competition assisted by Split second science. The learners had to build there own robot extensions and code the robots to complete certain tasks all within 2 minutes.
The team winners were:
1st Supreme Intelligence
2nd Smooth Criminals
3rd The Kashiks and Phoenix (tied)
Teams are using the Lego EV3 robotis and are excited for Term 3.
Edgemead High School hosted a Xhosa Week celebration in support of Africa Day 2019.
Learners celebrated the Xhosa culture by dressing up in their vibrant traditional clothing and hosting a fashion show for their school. A group of talented learners performed Xhosa songs acapella, while others showed off traditional Xhosa dances.
It was a great opportunity for learners to show off their culture, while also teaching their peers about their culture.
On the 25th of May, countries across the African continent will celebrate Africa Day 2019 in celebration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity.
Kaylee Cox, performed in the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod, playing Trumpet earlier this month and received GOLD PLUS for her solo performances “Beautifully Unfinished” by Ella Hendersen and “Rusalka’s song to the moon” by Antonin Dvorak.
