Save a Fishies’ Coast 2 Coast Beach Clean-up Campaign Successfully Concludes This Saturday, Astounding Results Achieved: Over 100 Beaches Cleaned and nearly 3 Tons of Litter Collected Across South Africa.
[Cape Town, 18 August 2023] – Coast 2 Coast, an innovative and impactful beach clean-up campaign led by Save a Fishie NPC founder Zoe Prinsloo, is enthusiastically reaching its conclusion on Saturday, 5 August, leaving a profound mark on the coastal regions of South Africa. The campaign’s successful efforts have led to the cleaning of 112 beaches and the collection of an impressive 3.6 tons of litter to date. This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and collective commitment towards preserving the natural beauty of South Africa’s coastal areas.
From the shores of the Cape Peninsula to the dazzling beaches of KwaZulu-Natal and beyond, Save a Fishie mobilized a variety of volunteers, including local residents, environmental organizations, Girl Guides and concerned citizens, who joined forces with one common goal — to make a positive impact on the environment.
Beginning on 20 May, Coast 2 Coast unfolded its eminent mission throughout the country, addressing the alarming issue of beach litter head-on. Throughout the course of the campaign, volunteers worked tirelessly to clean up and restore these precious coastal ecosystems, ensuring they remain healthy, vibrant, and accessible for future generations. The team started at Eden on the Bay in Cape Town and travelled up the West Coast all the way to Port Nolloth, whereafter they crossed the country doing clean-ups at the Hennops and Jukskei rivers before starting at St Lucia and travelling down the entire East Coast back down to Milnerton Lagoon in Cape Town.
The remarkable success of Coast 2 Coast can be attributed to the united efforts of its dedicated volunteers, Zoe together with her mother and younger sister, who persevered despite challenging circumstances. Their ability to galvanize communities and mobilize resources created a strong surge of environmental awareness, generating a ripple effect of positive change that resonated throughout South Africa.
The significance of Coast 2 Coast’s accomplishments cannot be overstated. The campaign’s efforts have not only protected and preserved the remarkable beauty of South Africa’s beaches but have also helped to safeguard the diverse marine ecosystems and the wildlife that depends on them. Moreover, the clean beaches now serve as prime destinations for tourists, thus boosting local economies and rejuvenating coastal communities.
“We are immensely proud of our successful Coast 2 Coast Beach Clean-up Campaign,” said Zoe. “Our unwavering dedication and remarkable teamwork together with help from our awesome volunteers have led to the cleaning of over 100 beaches and the collection of an astonishing 3.6 tons of litter. This achievement speaks volumes about the power of collective action and the impact we can make when we unite for a common cause.”
